Dave O’Brien is the lead play-by-play announcer for Boston Red Sox coverage on NESN. In addition, he has served as a play-by-play announcer for college football and college basketball games on ESPN and ACC Network.
Prior to ESPN, Dave worked for the Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, New York Mets, the University of Georgia, and the University of Florida. In 2006, he joined the primary broadcast team for the 2006 FIFA World Cup on ESPN and ABC. He has also called NFL games for the Atlanta Falcons.
Dave recorded play-by-play “commentary” for the High Heat Major League Baseball video game series for its 2002, 2003, and 2004 installments. He also provided commentary for MLB’s international coverage of the World Series from 2004 until 2009.
Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, Dave grew up in Marshfield, Massachusetts, and later New Hampshire before receiving a degree in broadcasting from the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in 1986.
