A former goalkeeper with a larger-than-life personality, Shep has been a trailblazer both on and off the field, inspiring generations of soccer fans.
Messing rose to prominence as the goalkeeper for the legendary New York Cosmos, playing alongside icons like Pelé, Franz Beckenbauer and Giorgio Chinaglia during the North American Soccer League’s (NASL) golden era. Known for his acrobatic saves and fearless style, he was instrumental in helping the Cosmos secure multiple championships and elevate soccer’s profile in the United States.
Shep’s participation in the 1972 Munich Olympics holds profound significance as both an athlete and a proud Jewish American.
