Eliza Rose is proof of the magic within UK underground club culture. The vocalist, producer and DJ is responsible for worldwide smash 'B.O.T.A (Baddest Of Them All)' — the track that soared to Number One and saw her crowned as the first female DJ to top the official charts in 20 years. But it didn't happen out of thin air: Eliza has long been circling London's clubs, festivals and record shops, cultivating invaluable taste as a selector. Now having collected MOBO and Brit nominations, plaques, magazine covers and a world tour, she's straddling both the underground and global superstardom. A couple of years on and Eliza is showing no signs of slowing down. Following hits last year with the Martinez Brothers ('Pleasure Peak') & Calvin Harris ('Body Moving'), she's returning to her own Rosebud Recordings for Business As Usual. Channelling her time-worn passion for 2-step, the single catapults you right back into the champagne-fuelled midst of UKG's heyday. Co-production comes from garage royalty MJ Cole, and it's all plucked strings, organ synth splays and hollow bass. Ever keen to flip ideas on their head, Eliza has turned in two versions: a '9-5' edit and a 'night shift mix.' The former, slowed-down single makes use of sultry soul, Motown and jazz, while the nocturnal edit is a paean to the UKG bangers on her permanent rotation, from Sweet Female Attitude to Lovestation's 'Teardrops.' "This return to the sounds she grew up on symbolises Eliza's desire to keep close to the underground community that birthed her. "I had a really big year but I wanted to make sure I'm nurturing those underground roots," she says of her most recent release. But Eliza's sights are set further afield, and she's set to explore garage through a new lens in her forthcoming USG EP — a headsy marriage of both London garage and the US sound for something like you've never heard.
