To kick off the 2023 season, Tennessee’s MLS team, Nashville SC, licensed Johnny Cash’s name and likeness for their away kit, as well as a full merchandise line.
The team’s nickname, formerly “The Boys in Gold,” has been rebranded to the “Boys in Black” as they wear these kits for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
The jerseys debuted at the 2023 Home Opener, “The Man In Black Match,” against New York City FC, where all the fans wore black to honor Johnny Cash. John Carter Cash performed a medley of his father’s songs to honor his legacy at halftime.
It was the first MLS game to air on Apple TV+, and the jersey launch garnered over 4B impressions.
