In 2015 the fes>val-headlining dance phenomenon released Faithless 2.0, a greatest hits-slash-remix album featuring contribu>ons from the likes of Avicii, Tiësto, Armin van Buuren and Claptone. It was the latest jewel in a gliLering, 25-year career encompassing 10 Top 10 singles, six Top 5 albums (three at Number One) both in the UK and Europe, and the four->mes-pla>num 'Forever Faithless — The Greatest Hits': sales in excess of 20 million albums and, in the new world of Spo>fy/Apple etc, streams fast approaching 1 billion.
In 2020 they returned with "a powerful beacon of light in electronica" (XS Noise): their hugely successful 7th studio album, 'All Blessed.' It was their first without Maxi Jazz, who was intensely private about his on -going heath issues.
But though he didn't appear on the album, the band s>ll wanted to reflect his (and their) world view: "In this troubled and increasingly violent world, lyrically the album tries to reflect what has always been the Faithless manifesto: be conscious, be caring, love yourself so you can love others and understand who you are and where you are… Never polemical but hopefully intelligent and (occasionally!) inspira>onal — this is music with feeling and words with meaning."
Moreover as Bliss explained, it was a great listen – big but never bombas>c; melodic, electronic and funky, and always having something proper to say; in the musical corner Faithless had made their own.
From their earliest days the band has toured all their albums, but with the arrival of 'All Blessed' also came the arrival of Covid: the world shut down and the band were unable to go back on the road, relying only on streaming to spread their music: 'All Blessed' being, believe it or not, the first Faithless album to be released into the world of streaming.
Maxi Jazz died in 2022 and there was such outpouring of love from Faithless' fans – unsurprising as he was a truly amazing human being and had touched so many with his lyrics & performances. Sister Bliss and Rollo had hoped he would be well enough to make some sort of appearance on their new recordings but it was sadly not to be.
Anyone who has seen Faithless knows what a fantas>c front man Maxi was, so to return to the live arena without him, no doubt about it, is a challenge! But, with a new album on the way, it is also very exci>ng for the band. Bliss and Rollo decided that if Faithless were to go out live, it would be punky, funky and uplijing: a celebra>on of the genre which they played a big part in crea>ng, and of course, a remembrance of Maxi himself. They have teamed up with show designer extraordinaire Jvan Morandi (Jean Michel Jarre), they have called up some (very) talented friends and have returned, in certain ways, to… where they began…
