about the artist

FKJ, a.k.a. Vincent Fenton, is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer from France. His music is a swirling concoction of old and new genres that has captivated audiences across the globe.

His first brush with music was at the age of 4, when he fell in love with the classic 'Another One Bites The Dust,' which he found nestled in his parents record collection. From there he kept digging and moved across to the epic soundscapes of Pink Floyd, the warm jazz of Nina Simone, the contemporary, Gallic-inflected songwriting of Serge Gainsbourg and the clever production of Dr.Dre.

This eclectic taste from a young age has clearly fed into his own music, which encompasses a dizzying array of sounds and textures.

He began to compose and write songs at the age of 13, picking up guitar first before moving onto a cheap keyboard. By simply being playful, he discovered his own musicality noting, "by doing so, you can do something with any instrument. At 15, I realized I knew how to play the piano, without ever planning to learn it."

During his teenage years, electronic music opened up another world and another set of styles which began to influence FKJ's way of thinking. In 2012, he started releasing under FKJ or French Kiwi Juice, an alias inspired by his double nationality. He quickly started to perform shows on his own, "it was just me travelling to the venue by myself with all my stuff." While others may be terrified performing multiple instruments by themselves alone on stage, it was quite the opposite for FKJ who declared, "it made me feel at home."

Flash-forward to the present, and FKJ has now moved beyond his first forays onto the stage. He released his debut collection French Kiwi Juice in 2017, which, along with his previous EPs, has built up over 225 million streams. He has also had high profile collaborations with Tom Misch ('Losing My Way') and Masego ('Tadow') and has now played shows on all 4 corners of the globe, gathering a devout fanbase in the process.

Towards the end of a 2018, he found himself performing in India, a country where he has performed since 2015, to an audience of over 10,000 people. It was an incredible and humbling experience, playing in a country where he never thought to see his audience expand on such a grand scale.

The impact of travel on his music is highly significant as he often finds himself influenced by whichever space he finds himself to be in. Whether it is nature or cities, he is often overcome by the urge to record his ideas, documenting the moment on his phone before they slip away. On how environments impact upon his songwriting he says, "songs recorded in nature are often more calm and reflective, whereas when I'm in the city I'm more hyper and I want to create quickly."

His new record, set for release in 2019, is a collection of songs all recorded in the moment. These songs trace the past two years of his life, which he has described as a "transitional period." It was during this time that he relocated from France to the tropics, a seismic shift that set the tone for his upcoming 2019 sophomore album. "I wanted to capture time and gather moments, music is about memories." This approach, viewing music as memories, can be best heard on forthcoming single "Leave My Home," a song that turns the dislocating experience of moving home into a heartfelt jam. It's a beautiful track based around a nimble guitar figure and a glorious melodic hook that suggests great things are to come from this next record.

With a new album set to be released, a sold out EU-UK tour and a 25 date US/Canada tour to come, this year is set to be huge for FKJ. Where most artists would balk at this pressure, FKJ is set to take it into his stride and continue to create music, share memories and continue to inspire.
