Fast-rising Brighton ones to watch Lime Garden have today shared their brand new single and video 'Nepotism (baby)' on So Young Records.
'Nepotism (baby)' is the first new music from the band since 'Bitter' arrived in October last year, and hints at Lime Garden's first bigger project due early in 2024. Produced by Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, PJ Harvey, Yard Act), the single expands on the band's stellar run of releases to date which has seen their audience grow past the 150,000 monthly listeners mark on Spotify, selling out shows all over the country in the process.
Lime Garden's Chloe Howard said: "'Nepotism (baby)' was written as a commentary on modern society, imagining my life as if I was someone born into fame. Writing the track gave me the feeling of being a teenager again, writing songs in my bedroom using three chords or less. The sound of this song pays homage to the beginnings of this band as four angsty teens who love guitars."
Lime Garden have supported the likes of IDLES, The Big Moon, and Yard Act on their headline tours, they played the British Music Embassy at this year's SXSW festival, and are currently in the middle of a packed summer of festival appearances across Europe, most recently at Glastonbury where they were invited to play Billy Bragg's Leftfield Stage. In 2022, Lime Garden were nominated for the prestigious ANCHOR award at the Reeperbahn festival; their performance is available to watch HERE.
With each release, Lime Garden continue to prove themselves one of indie's hottest prospects and kicked off 2022 with a host of tips behind them — landing spots on the NME 100, Dork Hype List, and DIY Class of 2022. They were also selected by The Sunday Times Culture as their Breaking Act and The Independent as a New Sensations featured artist, as well as receiving a glowing endorsement from Paramore's Hayley Williams on her special Everything Is Emo show on BBC Radio 6 Music. The start of 2023 saw the band decamp to various parts of the UK to start work on their debut album.
Lime Garden are four friends whose song writing jumps over genre boundaries to create a sound that is uplifting yet somehow laid-back. They achieve this neat trick by harnessing catchy melodies and earworm hooks into an almost nonchalant net of lo-fi sounds, which is then sprinkled with a dry-wit to bring their world to life. It's a world of late-night conversations and observations that strike a chord. The band came together via a twist of fate when Chloe Howard and Annabel Whittle, friends on social media, found out they'd just enrolled at the same college. Here they met Leila Deeley and the three bonded over a love of Talking Heads and the lyrics of Courtney Barnett along with note taking trips to gigs at the Boileroom in Guildford.
With college life done and dusted, the bright lights of Brighton beckoned for Leila and Annabel, which is where the fourth and final member Tippi Morgan fell into the equation yet again but chance. Having coaxed Chloe down to the south coast the line-up was complete.
