about the artist

Since forming in 2015, PREP have grown from a secretive London studio project into a fully-fledged live experience, playing to tens of thousands of enraptured fans on stages all over the world.

Since forming in 2015, PREP have grown from a secretive London studio project into a fully-fledged live experience, playing to tens of thousands of enraptured fans on stages all over the world.

The four members of the group — vocalist-lyricist Tom Havelock, keyboardist Llywelyn ap Myrddin, drummer Guillaume Jambel, and producer-guitarist Dan Radclyffe — first came together with a specific aim: to cut deep grooves that mined contemporary R&B and electronica while hearkening back to the soft, sheer sound of the late '70s and early '80s. Their first release, Cheapest Flight, made it clear what they were about right from the opening bars.

In the ensuing years they have honed a sound which is entirely theirs — a unique feel and atmosphere which allowed them to cover Harry Styles's smash "As It Was" and turn it into their own unmistakable viral hit (cue tens of millions of plays and endless YouTube comments along the lines of "this makes Harry's version sound like a cover").

For last year's sophomore album of slick pop gems, The Programme, they enlisted the help of Latin Grammy-nominated producer Renaud Letang, acclaimed for his work with Feist, L'Impératrice, and Benny Sings. The work they did together in Paris led to the band's smoothest, warmest sounding record yet, and continued their long line of distinguished collaborators which has included DEAN, Cory Wong, Anna of the North, Phum Viphurit and Eddie Chacon.

Shows across the US, Europe and Asia have seen their live following grow and grow, with huge headline shows and festival appearances including Summer Sonic, Seoul Jazz, Clockenflap, and Java Jazz. And as the stages get bigger the evolution is clear — the musical project that began as an experiment is becoming a globetrotting phenomenon with a fully realized aesthetic. This is the moment where PREP ascends to the next level of international acclaim.
