Arik Armstead is a defensive end for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Previously, Armstead played for the San Francisco 49ers, where he expanded his role within the 49er’s defense each season. In 2018, he was ranked the third overall lineman for stopping the run (according to Pro Football Focus). In 2019, Armstead led the 49ers with ten sacks.

Armstead played college football at the University of Oregon before being selected 17th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft by the 49ers. As a freshman at Oregon, he joined the men’s basketball team following the completion of the football season, redshirting for the program that claimed the Pac-12 Conference Tournament title and advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. Armstead played basketball and football at Oregon before focusing only on football in 2014.

Growing up, Armstead attended Pleasant Grove High School in Elk Grove, California. During his high school career, he played football and basketball.

Off the field, Armstead is passionate about giving back to his community. He began the Armstead Academic Project in 2019, which provides students, regardless of socioeconomic status, direct access to the resources they need to thrive. He launched his vision to positively impact the Sacramento public school system by serving students and providing equality. In 2024, the NFL awarded Armstead with the 2024 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, the league’s most prestigious honor, recognizing NFL players who excel on the field and demonstrate a steadfast commitment to creating a positive impact beyond the game.
