Two-time Super Bowl winning coach Tom Coughlin’s achievements on the gridiron are vast. Coughlin spent 31 years in the NFL including 21 as a head coach. He still ranks as the 13th-winningest coach in NFL history with an overall record of 182-157 (.537), including two Super Bowl championships and a 12-7 postseason mark. The Waterloo, New York, native posted a 170-150 regular season record during his tenure, including nine years in Jacksonville and 12 with the New York Giants. His 12 wins in the playoffs are tied for 7th in league history, and he led teams to capture five division titles and nine playoff berths.
Coach Coughlin led the Giants to Super Bowl victories against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI, becoming the 13th coach in NFL history to claim multiple Super Bowl titles. He is also one of 20 head coaches with a perfect record in Super Bowl games.
Along with his achievements on the gridiron, Coughlin created the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation in 1996 after Jay McGillis, a player he coached at Boston College, was diagnosed and lost his battle to cancer. Jay’s life and his cancer journey inspired Coach Coughlin to help families facing financial and emotional challenges when tackling pediatric cancer. Coach Coughlin calls the foundation Jay’s legacy because Jay’s spirit and determination are intertwined with the countless patients and families who’ve been helped over the years.
