Josh Philippe has built a big reputation as a hard-hitting white ball batter for the Sydney Sixers.

Early Career

Born in Subiaco Western Australia, Josh has played at under 17s, 19s and 23s for Western Australia, as-well-as first grade cricket for Bayswater-Morley, in the Western Australian Cricket Association (2015-16).

In England, Josh has played for Durham’s Second XI (2017) and club cricket for Taunton (2016) and Newcastle (2017).

 

Western Australia

Josh first appeared on the cricketing radar while playing for a Western Australian XI against England in November 2017. Opening the batting, Josh scored an eye-catching first innings 88.

Then in February 2018, he made his debut in the Sheffield Shield for Western Australia (WA) in the clash with Tasmania, scoring a second innings 74. His maiden Sheffield Shield century came in October 2018 against Victoria.

In his seven years at WA Josh played 34 First-Class matches and 41 List A games.

NSW

In early April 2024, New South Wales (NSW) announced Josh had moved from WA to join the Blues 2024/25 Men’s roaster.

Big Bash League (BBL)

Josh made his debut in the BBL for Perth Scorchers in December 2017.

A year later he moved to Sydney Sixers. Joining the Magentas was instrumental in Josh’s career taking a sharp upwards curve. Josh hit over 300 runs in his first season for the Sydney franchise and helped them to reach the semi-finals of BBL 08.

In recognition of his positive impact, Josh signed a three-year contract with the franchise, in April 2019.

During BBL 09 Josh’s batting helped to take the Sixers to the final. His Player of the Match 52, in the final helping the Magentas lift the title.

During BBL 10 Josh was outstanding. His performances with the bat and behind the stumps resulting in him being selected the Player of the Tournament as well as being named in the Team of the Tournament.

Australia
Josh was selected for the short white ball tour of England in September 2020, although he did not play in either the ODI or IT20 series.

After a successful BBL 10, Josh made his IT20 debut for Australia on 22 February 2021 in the first match of the series vs. New Zealand.
