Stuart Broad

Stuart Broad is the second-highest wicket-taker in English Test match history. He retired after giving England a final Test victory in the 2023 Ashes series. Stuart is now in demand as a commentator.

Leicestershire

Stuart signed his first full professional contract with Leicestershire in 2005. In April he made his first-class debut for the county and started his first County Championship match in June of the same year. Stuart was awarded his county cap in 2007.

Nottinghamshire

Stuart moved to Nottinghamshire in 2008. His loyalty, to the county of his birth, has been rewarded with a testimonial year in 2019.

England

Stuart is part of an elite group of players who have taken over 600 wickets in Test match cricket.

In 2005 Stuart was selected for England Under-19s. In his sole Test appearance vs. Sri Lanka Stuart took 5-17 in England’s 220 run win. He went on to make three youth ODIs in the series against Sri Lanka.

He made his Test debut in December 2007 in the second Test in Sri Lanka.

Stuart became the twelfth England player to take a hat-trick in Tests. At his “home” ground Trent Bridge, Stuart took the wickets of MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar in successive balls during the second Test vs. India in 2011.

It was at Trent Bridge again where Stuart recorded his career-best figures of 8-15 in the Ashes Test in 2015.

In the home Ashes series of 2023, Stuart took his six-hundrethTest wicket during the fourth Test at Old Trafford. In the final Test at the Oval, he took his one-hundred and fiftieth wicket against Australia. On the third day of the same Test, Stuart announced his retirement from professional cricket. He signed off in the best possible fashion by taking the final two Australian wickets to ensure a 2-2 series draw.

Stuart closed his career with a total of 604 Test wickets. With the bat, Stuart scored 3662 Test runs including one century and thirteen half-centuries.

Stuart writes a regular column for the Mail on Sunday and he is also the author of a number of books. Since bringing his playing career to a close, Stuart has furthered his broadcast media profile.
